Title of Poet Laureate

    WASHINGTON, March 30.—A proposal to give the title of honorary poet laureate of the United States to Representative John Steven McGroarty of California was made today in a joint resolution introduced in the House by Representative Monaghan of Montana.
    The text of the resolution read:
    "To make John Steven McGroarty honorary poet laureate of the United States of America.
    "Resolved by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, that out of recognition for the manifold poems of elegance and beauty his pen has contributed to the poetic lore of our nation, and especially the poem entitled 'The Lady Eleanor,' written in honor of and dedicated to the First Lady of the Land, Mrs. Franklin Delano (Eleanor) Roosevelt, that the Honorable John Steven McGroarty be, and he is hereby, declared honorary poet laureate of the United States of America."
